Amtrak service between Boston and New York has been fully restored after overhead power issues forced Amtrak to suspend trains on the Northeast rail Wednesday night.
Amtrak said early Thursday that service between Boston and New York had been fully restored, though residual delays are anticipated as they return to regular operations.
“We appreciate your patience and understanding,” Amtrak Northeast said in a post on X announcing the service resumption.

Amtrak first issued a travel advisory shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday announcing the suspended rail service, saying customers traveling between Boston and New York could rebook for another day using their fare protect feature, which allows customers to change their ticket at no additional charge or to request a full refund.
Amtrak also said at the time that services operating between New Haven and New York were canceled for the remainder of Wednesday evening due to a loss of overhead power. Those customers were able to have their tickets honored on Metro-North services operating between New Haven and Grand Central Terminal.

Crews were on scene Wednesday night assessing the issue and working toward a resolution, with Amtrak initially unable to give an estimated time for service restoration.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this unexpected disruption,” Amtrak said.
