A section of long-standing scaffolding beside Ramon Aponte Playground collapsed on Wednesday evening, startling neighbors and reigniting concerns about a structure many say never felt safe to begin with.

Eddie Gomez, a Hell’s Kitchen resident, said he was heading home from work just before 8pm when he heard a sudden, heavy “BA-boom” from down the block.
