New York state Assemblyman Donna Lupardo on Thursday endorsed Binghamton attorney Dan Norton to be her successor in the state Legislature after she recently announced she would not run for reelection this year.
“Having all of the qualities of an exceptional representative, we are very fortunate to have someone of Dan’s caliber running for this seat,” Lupardo said in a statement. “He is a well-respected member of our community, active in many important organizations, and dedicated to public service. I know he will work hard to represent all of us.”
Lupardo, a Democrat, has served in the state Legislature’s lower chamber since 2005, representing the 123rd District, which includes the city of Binghamton and the towns of Vestal and Union. She has served as chair of the Assembly Agriculture Committee since 2019.
“For more than two decades, Donna Lupardo has represented this community with dedication and distinction in the New York State Assembly. I truly am inspired by her example and deeply honored to receive her endorsement,” Norton said in a statement. “I am committed to building on her successes and carrying forward her legacy of delivering real results for working families, local businesses, and our rural and urban communities.”
Norton is an Endwell native and partner at the law firm Hinman, Howard & Kattel. He previously served as president of the Broome County Bar Association.
Former Binghamton City Council member Dan Livingston and Nick Libous — son of former state Sen. Tom Libous — are also seeking the Democratic nomination for the seat.
