STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Anthony Antenucci scored a hat trick and Joseph Donadio added two goals as St. Peter’s upended previously undefeated St. Joseph by-the-Sea, 6-4, in CHSHL A play at Staten Island Pavilion on Wednesday.
The Eagles, who also received a goal from Nick Aversa and two assists apiece from Giancarlo Sears and Nick King, improved to 8-6-1 overall.
Dan Pieters, Charles Bailey, Kingston Vandenheuvel and Avery Lee added one helper apiece for SP.
St. Peter’s goaltender Chris DiDonna, meanwhile, turned in a strong game after making 34 saves.
Sea opened the scoring 4:54 in, but Antenucci knotted the score just over two minutes later when he converted a nice pass from Lee into a goal. Just 1:33 later, Donadio made it 2-1 with an unassisted tally after working the puck free from the corner.
The Eagles then opened the second-period scoring at 7:41 when Antenucci turned a Sears feed into a goal. The New Brighton school then went into the third period up 4-1 when Aversa tallied on a power play off two nice passes from Vandenheuvel to Aversa.
Although Sea made it 4-2 early in the third, the Eagles regained momentum when Antenucci took a pass from Sears and weaved through three Sea players to score a short-handed goal to make it 5-2. The Eagles later capped their scoring when Donadio tallied off assists from King and Pieters.
Sea scored twice to cut SP’s lead to 6-4, but DiDonna made several sensational stops, according to SP head coach Ed Blackburn, in the final 5:00 to preserve the victory.
SP’s next game is against Holy Cross on Thursday (8:40 p.m.) at the Pavilion.
