New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani requested an increase in the amount of money that the state sends to New York City since the city is the state’s economic engine.
But the pot of money is finite, and upstate cities need increases as well.
Syracuse City Auditor Alexander Marion argues that cities all around the state need a 30% increase in Aid and Incentives to Municipalities, also known as AIM aid, as well as a 2.5% annual increase.
Marion spoke with Capital Tonight’s Susan Arbetter about the history of AIM, and why cities shouldn’t be considered an afterthought.
