TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – It’s almost time to dive into the coolest party of the season!
Northeast Kansas’ Polar Plunges for Special Olympics Kansas get started this weekend in Manhattan. Ashley Previty with the Shawnee Co. Sheriff’s Office and the Law Enforcement Torch Run visited Eye on NE Kansas to share the details.
Each community adds its own special touches to their plunge, but all have a common theme: jumping into cold water! Previty said costumes are encouraged to add to the fun.
Previty said area law enforcement has a special connection to the Special Olympics. They are the ‘keepers of the flame,’ and lead runs across the state each year to bring the Special Olympics Flame of Hope to the State Games.
Money raised through Polar Plunges support Special Olympics athletes, competitions and healthy living programs.
