1. Minneapolis mayor pays visit to Mamdani after ICE surge
Mayor Zohran Mamdani met with a fellow mayor, Jacob Frey of Minneapolis, on Thursday — the day a surge in federal immigration agents came to a close.
Frey’s visit came on the day President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, announced that Operation Metro Surge in Minneapolis was winding down, after securing agreements with local law enforcement and jails on detaining unauthorized immigrants.
2. Woman injured by new MTA fare gate, agency says it’s ‘making adjustments’
One woman says the new fare gates at 23rd Street-Baruch College closed on her as she was exiting, causing cuts and bruising to her face and gums. A second rider had them close on his face, causing a gash in his forehead.
The MTA says they are constantly learning and adjusting the gates, and the number of incidents has gone down from when the pilot program started in December.
3. Rep. Malliotakis appeals to Supreme Court to stay decision on redistricting
Republican Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, whose district covers Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn, has filed an emergency appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court in an attempt to stay the decision to redraw the lines of her district.
The Manhattan Supreme Court’s decision last month to redraw the lines of New York’s 11th congressional district came after a lawsuit claimed its boundaries disenfranchised Black and Latino voters.
