CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University of Richmond field hockey team captured a fourth shutout on the season Sunday, when the team defeated Queens University Charlotte, 3-0, at Bessant Field.

Richmond, now 8-5 on the season and 3-1 in league play, is back in action at Crenshaw Field Friday, Oct. 17 with a 5 p.m. contest against Saint Joseph’s (7-5, 2-1) in Atlantic 10 action to kick off 2025 Homecoming Weekend on ESPN+.

After a quiet first quarter, the Spiders got on the scoreboard first in the second quarter.

In the 20th minute, Sarah Ellis starts the offensive drive, sending the ball up to Lainey Nichols. Nichols pushes a cross into the circle to find a diving Clara Larripa for the score and her team-leading 12th goal of the season. Nichols collected her second assist on the season.

The Spiders pounce quickly in the second half and up the offensive pressure on the Royals. Off a restart from the 25-yard line, Jess McMeeking found Valen Luna Paratore drawing all the defenders in the circle. Luna Paratore made the quick touch pass to Reese Miller for the Spiders second goal of the game in the 32nd minute. Miller collected her second career goal while Luna Paratore tallied her second helper on the year.

Richmond added to their lead in the 39th minute action. Emma Williams came up with the ball that comes out of a defensive scrum, settled the ball before driving the end line into the circle to find Luna Paratore for her second goal of the season. Williams tallied her first helper on the year.

Goalkeeper Amanda Cimillo picked up her fourth clean sheet on the year, making two saves, both in the second quarter, over 49 minutes of action. Thea Conomikes made two saves in 11 minutes of action in the fourth quarter.

Richmond finished the contest with the upper hand in shots, 11-7, shots on goal, 7-4, and penalty corners, 5-4.
