NYC Ferry expanded partial service Friday as ice in the New York Harbor continued to break up, but many routes remain suspended, and riders have been warned to expect delays.

After partially restoring the Rockaway-Soundview route on Wednesday, the ferry system added modified service Friday on the East River and Astoria routes.

However, some landings continue to be impacted by lingering ice, and full service across the network has not yet returned.

What You Need To Know

Partial service resumed Friday on the East River and Astoria routes

Landings still closed include Sunset Park/BAT, Rockaway, South Williamsburg and Brooklyn Navy Yard

St. George and South Brooklyn routes remain suspended

Riders are advised to expect delays and check ferry.nyc or the NYC Ferry app for the latest schedules

The Rockaway-Soundview line — which starts in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx, extends down Manhattan’s East Side to Lower Manhattan, cuts across to Sunset Park in Brooklyn and ends in Rockaway — is still skipping the Sunset Park/Brooklyn Army Terminal and Rockaway landings.

On the East River route, which connects East 34th Street to Greenpoint, DUMBO and other north Brooklyn waterfront communities, the South Williamsburg stop remains closed.

The Astoria route, connecting Astoria to Long Island City, Roosevelt Island and Manhattan’s East 90th Street and Wall Street, continues to skip the Brooklyn Navy Yard landing.

All other routes, including St. George and South Brooklyn, remain suspended.

Ferry service was largely halted on Jan. 27 due to large ice floes that made docking and navigation unsafe.

“We have been monitoring every landing to determine when and where we can safely and reliably restart service,” NYC Ferry said in an update Thursday. “While some landings continue to see fluctuations in ice accumulation, others have become more consistently clear, making them reliable for NYC Ferry operations. We are hopeful that as temperatures rise, we will be able to re-open other routes.”

Officials cautioned that riders may still see delays and schedule changes.

“There may be lingering effects from the ice,” the agency said. “As a result, minor delays or temporary adjustments are possible as we continue to monitor conditions and ensure the safe docking of all vessels.”

Riders are advised to check individual route schedules at ferry.nyc or in the app for real-time updates.
