STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — On Friday morning on Staten Island’s South Shore, a crafty fox turned a quiet patch of parkland into its own hunting ground.
Using a wooden barrier for cover, the fox crept toward an unsuspecting blue jay pecking at the ground — relying on stealth over speed.
Observing from her car, Advance/SILive.com multimedia specialist Jan Somma-Hammel watched and photographed the split‑second drama unfold, as the fox leaped over the barrier, captured the bird, and quickly retreated into the woods with its catch.
