STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — FDNY officials will join Rep. Nicole Malliotakis on Friday to unveil $9 million in federal funding earmarked for fire equipment and facility upgrades.

Malliotakis, a Republican who represents parts of Staten Island and Brooklyn in Congress, secured the funding through the congressional appropriations process.

The announcement is expected to take place Friday at a firehouse on Staten Island. New FDNY Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore and department leaders are expected to join Malliotakis at the announcement.

Bonsignore, a veteran of the FDNY and former chief of EMS Operations, was appointed the department’s 37th fire commissioner by Mayor Zohran Mamdani in January.

This new funding will be allocated for upgrades to critical equipment and firehouse facilities serving both Staten Island and Brooklyn.

In recent years, Malliotakis, has secured millions of dollars in federal funding for both the FDNY and the New York City Police Department, with the goal of significant upgrades to public safety infrastructure.

Some of these include fire alarm systems at NYCHA housing, NYPD camera safety upgrades, license plate reader systems to target car thieves, counterterrorism operations and security upgrades for the New York City Department of Correction.
