NEW YORK STATE (WETM) — All registered voters in New York State who want to change their political party before the primaries must do so by the end of the day Saturday. The Chemung County Board of Elections said its office will be open to accommodate the deadline.
Registered voters who would like to change their political party before the 2026 primary election in June have until Saturday, Feb. 14. The Chemung County Board of Elections Office stated that its office will be open on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for those who need to make any last-minute enrollment changes.

Primary elections are a way for political parties to choose who will be the candidates on the general election ballot in November. New York State has closed primary elections, which means to vote in a political party’s primaries, you must be an enrolled member of that party, according to the Chemung County Board of Elections Office.
The board of elections said it must receive enrollment change requests by Feb. 14 to be effective for the June primary. Any enrollment changes received after that date will take effect seven days after the June Primary, which is June 30.
Registered voters can change their enrollment by turning in a new voter registration form to the board of elections using any of the methods listed below:
NYS Board of Elections’ Online Voter Registration portal – Application deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 14.
MyDMV customer portal – Application deadline if using the DMV portal is 1:59 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13.
Submit a paper form to the office in person – Chemung County Board of Elections, located at 378 S. Main Street, Elmira, NY 14904. (Paper forms are available at your local post office, municipal buildings, county agencies, or over the counter at the board of elections)

For residents who do not live in Chemung County, the Steuben, Schuyler, and Tioga County Board of Elections Offices will also be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday to accommodate the deadline.
