NEW YORK, NY— All New York State Department of Motor Vehicles offices, phone lines, and online services will be closed through Tuesday for a major technology system overhaul.
Services are scheduled to resume on Wednesday with the new platform.
The shutdown will affect in-person transactions, online services and customer support by phone. Customers should prepare for a total disruption of services during the five-day period.
The DMV said the closure is necessary to consolidate 30 million records and replace a 50-year-old legacy system with a new, streamlined technology platform.
Staff warned that lines and service adjustments are likely immediately after reopening as employees adjust to the new system.
Some local offices may follow different schedules. Customers are advised to check the DMV website for the latest information.
