Patricia Anne “Patty” Gangemi, 66, passed away on Feb. 10 after a courageous battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. Born on Aug. 12, 1959, Patty grew up on Staten Island and graduated from Susan Wagner High School in 1977, where she served as track team captain and was crowned Staten Island indoor champion at 50 meters in March 1977. She began her career as a secretary at Manufacturers Hanover and Irving Trust in Lower Manhattan before marrying her husband Joe in 1983, with whom she shared 42 years of marriage and raised five children.

A devoted member of the Blessed Sacrament community, Patty sang soprano in the church choir for over 40 years and performed with the Blessed Sacrament Parish Players in productions including Oklahoma, The Music Man and Shenandoah. She was a member of the Screen Actors Guild and appeared in the opening scene of Little Children starring Kate Winslet. Patty cherished her role as “Nanny” to 11 grandchildren and traveled extensively throughout her life. In 2023, she and Joe retired to Lewes, Delaware. She is survived by her husband, five children, 11 grandchildren, and siblings Terry Bruno, Robert, Thomas, James, and Steven Hammerton.
