Bronx Community Board No. 8 (CB8) has announced that it is seeking nominations from businesses in Bronx Community District 8 for the Betty Campbell-Adams Most Valuable Merchant (MVM) Award. The board covers the Bronx neighborhoods of Fieldston, Kingsbridge,  Marble Hill, Riverdale, Spuyten Duyvil, and Van Cortlandt Village.

 

The board said they are looking to identify merchants within the community who have worked to enhance economic growth, improve community relations, and increase civic participation.

 

“Betty Campbell-Adams was an iconic entrepreneur who was devoted to the betterment of our community,” the board said. ‘We believe that by recognizing our outstanding local merchants, we can, in some small way, reward those most deserving and inspire other businesses to follow her example.”

 

Nominations will be accepted through Friday, March 20.

Entries must include the name of the business or merchant being nominated, along with contact information; the type of business e.g., manufacturing, tech, retail, service; a description, nature, and impact of the contribution made to CB8 by the merchant or business. The individual or organization submitting the nomination must also be identified, including a contact number. Businesses are permitted to self-nominate.

Awards will be presented at the May 2026 Bronx Community Board 8 regular monthly board meeting.

 

As reported, some Kingsbridge-based businesses in Bronx Community District 8, located on West 238th Street between Broadway and Putnam Avenue, were forced to close early on Wednesday evening, Feb. 11, after three teenagers were shot and police had to cordon off the area for a ballistics investigation. Meanwhile, as reported, the Bronx Chamber of Commerce is calling on Bronx businesses, restaurants, and entrepreneurs to register by Feb. 15 for the upcoming Bronx Day in Albany, a full-day economic development forum spotlighting the businesses, nonprofits and institutions driving The Bronx economy, which will take place Tuesday, March 10, at the Albany Capital Center, as reported.
