PROSPECT HEIGHTS AND CORONA, QUEENS — THE BISHOP-ELECT OF PALM BEACH, FLORIDA, who earlier in his ministry served Brooklyn churches, will be honored at his current parish this Sunday, Feb. 15, before he leaves for his Feb. 24 ordination and installation.
Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Corona, Queens, will honor its beloved pastor, now Bishop-elect Manuel de Jesús Rodríguez, with a Farewell Mass and Celebration. These events will include opportunities for all parishioners to express their gratitude to him throughout the day; at the conclusion of each regularly scheduled Mass, Bishop-elect Rodríguez and parishioners will greet and bid farewell to each other in the church plaza. This event will culminate in a Special Farewell Mass at 3 p.m. and a ticketed reception at 4:30 p.m. in the parish auditorium.
Born in the Dominican Republic and ordained in Santo Domingo to the priesthood on July 3, 2004, then-Father Rodríguez arrived in the Diocese of Brooklyn in 2009. He was later named pastor of Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Williamsburg and was incardinated into (officially affiliated with) the diocese on June 29, 2012. Starting in 2014, he served Queens parishes, including Our Lady of Sorrows.
