BROOKLYN, New York (WABC) — A woman’s death, initially suspected to be a homicide, is now believed to be the result of a tragic accident inside a NYCHA building in Brooklyn, according to detectives.
Michelle Montgomery, 39, is now believed to have fallen into the garbage chute to her death.
She was found in the basement of the trash room at The Borinquen Public Houses at 330 Bushwick Avenue in Williamsburg on Sunday, Feb. 1.
NYCHA workers in the lower level found a bag suspiciously heavy, so they opened it and looked inside — that is when they found Montgomery’s body in pieces.

Darla Miles spoke with Michelle Montgomery’s life partner and father of her youngest child.
Authorities say Montgomery was out drinking before 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, and was on seen on video entering the complex at around 1:39 a.m. on Sunday.
Residents told police they heard screaming from the trash chute.
Montgomery had multiple puncture wounds and slashes, deep slashes to the right torso, right side of the head, multiple puncture wounds the upper thigh, pelvis area punctures to the right thigh, and multiple broken bones, including the rib cage.
The death was immediately believed suspicious and initially suspected to be a homicide. However, detectives now believe her death was a tragic accident.
