BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) — On Friday, the NYPD released new information regarding the death of 39-year-old Michelle Montgomery, a mother of four who was found dismembered inside a Williamsburg apartment building.

Montgomery’s remains were found on the morning of Feb. 1, prompting questions about whether she had been murdered.

During a press briefing, NYPD officials said that Montgomery’s remains were found in a black garbage bag that had already gone through a compactor machine.

Officials stated that Montgomery had gone to a bar the previous evening. Video reviewed by the NYPD showed that she left the bar alone and returned to the apartment building by herself.

Witnesses told police they heard screaming from the second-floor garbage chute.

Officials believe Montgomery may have dropped something into the chute and tried to retrieve it; however, she fell headfirst and ended up in the chute room two floors down.

Officials say an autopsy indicates Montgomery’s death was accidental and that there were no indications this was a homicide.

Montgomery is remembered as a devoted mother who worked overnight shifts at Amazon. The couple had welcomed a baby boy just 10 months ago, and those close to her say she appeared happy.

“I’m so sad for the children,” said Celeste Turner, who has lived in the victim’s Gowanus apartment building for many years.
