The Laura Bush Ladies for Literacy and Literacy Coalition of the Permian Basin hosted author, Robert M. Edsel, discussing his newest release and regional literacy.
On Wednesday evening, two local women’s groups joined forces to host New York Times Bestselling Author, Robert M. Edsel, for an evening discussion on his most recent book, Remember Us.
The Laura Bush Ladies for Literacy, in conjunction with the Literacy Coalition of the Permian Basin, invited the author to discuss his newest release, which explores the ‘sacrifice of war’ and ‘the transcendent power of gratitude,’ while highlighting the importance of literacy in the Permian Basin.
Edsel’s main message was that literacy could unlock many opportunities, from jobs to hobbies and even life.
“Literacy is connected to curiosity. And curiosity to me is the, if there’s a way to think about living as a youthful person all your life,” said Edsel, “It’s all about curiosity and wondering things. And literacy, of course, is the gateway to find out the answers to those questions.”
Edsel is best known for his literary release, “Monument Men,” which was adapted into the 2014 feature film of the same title starring Matt Damon and George Clooney.
The Literacy Coalition concluded the Power of Literacy Fundraiser at the Petroleum Club, where Edsel talked about how storytelling strengthens communities and preserves history.
