COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 11 Ohio State (7-3, 2-0) continued their Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association win streak with a 3-1 win over Queens University of Charlotte (5-5, 0-3) Friday at the Levine Center in Charlotte, NC.
 
The Buckeyes and the Royals kept it close during the first set, with the Buckeyes ultimately winning 25-22. Ohio State won the next set, 25-22 before falling to the Royals in the third set, 28-26. The Buckeyes found their groove in the fourth set, winning 25-18.
 
The Buckeyes were led in kills by Stanislaw Chacinski with 16. Daniel Hurley followed close behind with 15 kills. Tyler Tharpe and Aaron Grimm added 9 kills each.
 
Setter Daniel Henwood Rodriguez was credited with 51 assists. Henwood Rodriguez and Drew Hudson lead with 10 digs apiece.
 
Ohio State hit .397 for the match, which was bolstered by the Buckeyes hitting .519 in the fourth set. Chacinski hit .412 for the match.
 
Set 1 (25-22, OSU)
Eliel Salva-Torres got the Buckeyes going with his first kill of the match, 2-1. The Royals went on a small 4-1 run before an attack error by Queens tied the set at 5-all. A huge triple block by Grimm, Shane Wetzel, and Chacinski gave Ohio State the lead, 6-5. A smart play by Hurley extended the Buckeye lead, 9-6. Another run by Queens gave the Royals a small 15-13 lead before the media timeout. A kill by Grimm kept the Buckeyes within one point, 17-16 Royals. A great dig by Chacinski set Ohio State up for a massive kill by Hurley to tie it up at 18-all. Salva-Torres secured the lead for the Buckeyes with another kill, 20-19. An out-of-system kill by Hurley continued the Ohio State lead, 22-19. Wetzel kept the lead with another kill, 23-22. A massive block by Henwood Rodriguez, Chacinski, and Salva-Torres gave the Buckeyes their first set point, 24-22. Hurley won the set for Ohio State with another kill, 25-22.

Set 2 (25-22, OSU)
Brady Jones and Hurley started the second set strong with a block, 1-all. The Royals went on a small run that gave them a 6-3 lead. A kill by Wetzel started to close the gap for the Buckeyes, 7-5 Queens. A backrow kill by Hurley kept Ohio State within two, 8-6 Royals. Another Chacinski kill tied it at 8-all. A successful challenge by the Buckeyes gave them the lead, 9-8. Hurley’s service ace extended the Ohio State lead, 14-12. Consecutive kills by Tharpe continued the lead for the Buckeyes, 19-16. A 5-3 run by Queens kept the teams close before an Ohio State timeout, 22-21. Tharpe extended the lead for the Buckeyes with his third kill in three swings, 23-21. A great dig by Drew Hudson led to a kill by Grimm that gave Ohio State their first set point, 24-22. Tharpe won the set for the Buckeyes with his fourth kill, 25-22.

Set 3 (28-26, Queens)

A kill by Tharpe tied the third set at 3-all. Grimm kept it tied with another kill, 4-all. Another kill by Grimm continued to keep the set tied at nine all. Henwood Rodriguez’s service ace tied it at 15-all following the media timeout. Back-to-back kills by Tharpe and Grimm gave the Buckeyes the largest lead of the set, 17-15. The Royals tied it at 19-all after a small run. A massive backrow kill by Chacinski gave Ohio State the lead again, 22-21. Grimm’s kill gave the Buckeyes their first set point, 24-23. Another Chacinski kill gave Ohio State their second set point, 25-24. The Royals put up a fight and continued to tie it, 25-all. After a pair of unsuccessful challenges by the Buckeyes, a kill by Tharpe kept the set tied at 26-all. The Royals won the set 27-25.

Set 4 (25-18, OSU)
The Buckeyes started set four with a kill by Chacinski, 1-all. Another smart play by Hurley gave Ohio State the lead, 3-2. Hurley’s kill kept the Buckeyes in front, 8-6. A massive block by Henwood Rodriguez and Grimm extended the lead, 11-8. Consecutive kills by Chacinski maintained the Buckeye lead, 14-11. Ian Nolte’s first swing of the night concluded in a kill to continue the lead, 15-12. Ohio State put up a couple of huge blocks to gain a five-point lead, 18-13. Henwood Rodriguez had a kill of his own, 19-13. Nolte found his third kill of the night to further the Ohio State lead, 21-14. The Buckeye’s first match point followed a kill by Grimm, 24-18. Ohio State won the set, 25-18 after a service ace by Chacinski.
