NEW YORK (WABC) — Zohran Mamdani met with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey on Thursday afternoon to discuss “shared values” between the two in keeping their cities safe.
Frey, who is visiting New York City, has been vocal about his opposition to the influx of ICE agents in Minneapolis and the tactics they’re using following the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
City Hall released a statement saying that the two mayors “discussed their shared values when it comes to keeping our cities safe, as well as standing up for our vibrant immigrant communities.”
Following their meeting, Frey posted on social media that he had a productive discussion with Mamdani about public safety.
“Today I had a meaningful conversation with @NYCMayor about the reality local governments are facing. When federal government targets immigrant communities, it’s cities that feel it first – and cities that step up,” Frey said.
“We’re building a coalition of mayors ready to lead.”
