Former Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon revealed that she officially ditched New York City after leaving the show to live a more rural life away from others.
The Emmy-winning actress spoke exclusively with People at the Sundance Film Festival at the Monday, January 26 premiere of her new movie In the Blink of an Eye, where she confirmed that she left the city for a life at an undisclosed location in the wilderness.
“I’m living in the woods,” she said joyfully. “I moved to the woods — and I’m doing that pretty hard.”
She added that she is indeed serious and couldn’t be happier with her decision, saying she “loves it.” She even jokingly invited the interviewer over and promised, “I’ll make you a pie.”
Just because she decided to leave the lights and sounds of Manhattan behind for a quieter life in the woods doesn’t mean she’s retiring. Since leaving her run on SNL, which went from 2012 to 2022, McKinnon has starred in several movies like Barbie, The Roses and Andrew Stanton’s new science fiction epic. Indeed, she previously spoke about her decision to move to a rural area in the October 28 episode of Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast.

“I think the reason I’ve done it is that I believe very much that we are doomed,” she explained. “My goal is surviving the apocalypse for four days, that’s it. If I can make it to four, oh mama! I will have achieved something.”
She added, ”I know I wouldn’t make it past two hours, but I’d like to think I could go 48 and I’d be crying the whole time.”
