STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — One person was transported to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton Saturday morning after a vehicle crashed into a utility pole in New Brighton, according to a spokesperson for the FDNY.

The collision took place in the vicinity Franklin Avenue and Richmond Terrace at around 9:51 a.m., the spokesperson said.

The condition of the patient is unknown at this time.

The scene was monitored by the NYPD in the wake of the collision.

At the site, a white Nissan SUV could be seen driven up onto the sidewalk along Richmond Terrace, a small distance away from the intersection with Franklin Avenue.

The vehicle, which rested beside the pole, had significant damage to its front end.

The hood was completely detached and could be seen lying on the sidewalk. A few feet away, in the street, a pane of glass rested with numerous cracks throughout.

The front windshield of the SUV was smashed out and the side windows were not visible. Deployed airbags could be seen within the vehicle.

What appeared to be latex gloves were also strewn about the scene.
