ELON, N.C. – The Manhattan Jaspers softball team (3-5), on the backs of solid pitching from Natalye DeBus, won its second game at the Elon Invitational against the Hornets from Delaware State (0-2) by the final score of 3-1 at Hunt Softball Park on Saturday morning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After allowing two singles to open the contest, a dropped third strike led to the opening score coming home for the Hornets.
Manhattan was only able to muster one hit through the first two frames.
Three walks loaded the bases in the third, in time for DeBus to single to right and bring home the leading run.
Sophia Kiseloski popped a ball up to center field following, just long enough to score another runner to double the lead.
DeBus took control of the Hornet bats in the fourth and fifth, only giving up one hit in that stretch.
A sacrifice bunt in the road half of the seventh brought runners into scoring position with one out.
Facing the ultimate pressure, DeBus fanned her last two batters swinging to give the Jaspers their third win of the season.
STATS AND NOTES
Freshman utility player Natalye DeBus had quite the versatile day, collecting two RBI while going the distance in the circle. She collected seven strikeouts across her complete game, collecting her first win of 2026.
