TIMES SQUARE, Manhattan (WABC) — The sun was out on Valentine’s Day and it was a beautiful day to wear your heart on your sleeve.
Hundreds of couples gathered in Times Square to express their love, exchange vows and even renew promises.
Alexis and Marvin spent many date nights there – and in the Crossroads of the World, Alexis married the center of his world. Getting married on Duffy Square made sense to them, but not to family members.
“They thought we were crazy. We were crazy, because like, this is like, you know, out in the open,” Alexis said.
Their love story is one of several unfolding out in the open this Valentine’s Day.
Ben and Kelly Smith have been together since high school.
“We were like, what a better place to like, get married than somewhere that we have our best memories,” Ben said.
Two couples tied the knot, and two others got engaged.
“I want to display my love for her in front of the world. I love her so much,” said Natasha Marte.
Kietra Tillman thought she was just getting brunch in the city.
“I didn’t expect this. It’s a whole news conference,” Tillman said.
The couple dated long distance before Tillman moved to New York City.
Deondre Moultrie also didn’t suspect a thing.
Teon Henderson tells Eyewitness News he met Moultrie five years ago – entering each other’s lives at exactly the right time.
“We met on our birthday – we’ve been together ever since,” said Henderson.
This is the 15th year the Times Square Alliance has made this a possibility for loved ones with help from David’s Bridal and Sezzle.
