5 Years Strong: An Italian-Style Coffee Spot in Utica Keeps Brewing

UTICA, N.Y. — A local coffee shop owner is celebrating five years in business.

Joseph Putrello, owner of Joseph Putrello Coffee, explained that his shop has been open for just over five years, having first launched in the middle of the pandemic.

Putrello addressed recent news about the closing of Nostro, the business next door in the same building.

He stressed that the two are completely separate. He said Joseph Putrello Coffee remains open and will continue serving customers.

Utica Italian Restaurant Closes Its Doors

A Utica restaurant has announced it is closing its doors.

Putrello described his shop as an Italian-specialty coffee shop offering classic drinks like cappuccino, espresso and lattes, as well as unique Italian drinks.

He highlighted the velvet coffee served in a martini glass and table service that brings drinks to customers on a silver tray with water, seeking to recreate an authentic Italian experience.

Putrello said he uses only premium ingredients and that his baristas are highly trained.

He said that customers from places like Syracuse, Albany and Oneonta travel to Utica for his coffee, but there are still some locals who have not visited the shop.

Putrello encouraged people in Utica to stop by and see what makes the shop unique.

The coffee shop is located at 268 Genesee St. in downtown Utica.
