The USGS received over 70 responses from users in the area surrounding the epicenter of the earthquake, most of which were from southern Clinton County and northern Essex County, New York. A handful of those reports were from Vermont, in Chittenden and Grand Isle counties.
Small earthquakes happen fairly often in the Adirondacks due to ancient fault lines beneath the region.
The most recent earthquake in the North Country prior to this one occurred on Oct. 14, 2024, when a 2.7 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Chazy, New York.
