LAWRENCE, Long Island (WABC) — A man is charged with attempted murder after police say he shot his sister in the face with a crossbow.

Police in Nassau County responded to a home on West Avenue just before 9:30 p.m. on Friday.

When they arrived, they found a 28-year-old woman bleeding on the right side of her face.

Authorities say Samy Sedhom, 21, shot an arrow from a crossbow at the victim and it grazed her face.

“Families have problems just like everyone else, so I don’t know all the details, but it might’ve been an argument that went too far,” a neighbor said.

Nassau County police say Sedhom’s sister had just pulled into their attached garage after returning home from the gym.

They say she saw Sedhom sitting inside his parked car across the street.

Detectives say they both got out. The victim tried to enter the code to close the garage door when investigators say she felt a sharp pain to the right side of her face.

She started bleeding and called police.

When police arrived, they say they saw an arrow lodged into the back wall of the garage. They searched the suspect’s bedroom and found a box for the crossbow, a Katana samurai sword and a MacBook. All were seized by police.

In addition to a charge of attempted murder, Sedhom is also facing charges of assault, criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with evidence and stalking.

Prosecutors say he admitted to shooting and trying to kill his sister and that he had planned to do it since Christmas.

Sedhom remains in jail. The judge gave a full stay-away order for his sister.

He is due back in court on Wednesday. If convicted on the attempted murder charge, he could face up to 25 years in prison.
