The Cleveland Browns released a statement Monday that revealed safety Ronnie Hickman was the “victim of an assault” in New York City.

“Safety Ronnie Hickman was a victim of assault early Monday morning at a New York City hotel,” the statement said. “Ronnie was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital after the incident, was later released, and is home resting with his family.”

Hickman has played for the Browns in each of his three NFL seasons after he played collegiately at Ohio State.

The 24-year-old appeared in all 17 games last season and finished with 103 tackles, seven passes defended and two interceptions.

He is scheduled for restricted free agency this offseason.
