1. City crews catch up as snow melts
As temperatures rise into the 40s, melting snow is revealing weeks of trash pressed into sidewalks across the city.
The Department of Sanitation says crews melted 400 million pounds of snow after January’s storm, with 2,500 workers on 24-hour shifts for nearly two weeks. Trash pickup lagged but officials say the backlog is cleared.
2. Man in custody after multiple Manhattan businesses vandalized on Valentine’s Day
Police say a 34-year-old man went on a Valentine’s Day rampage in Midtown, breaking into multiple businesses.
Surveillance video shows him smashing windows at Uncle Jack’s Steakhouse, damaging a nearby deli and later spraying a fire extinguisher inside a 7-Eleven. He’s charged with burglary, robbery, assault and criminal mischief.
3. Bad Bunny brings Brooklyn icon to his Super Bowl halftime show
Maria Antonia Cay, known as Toñita, appeared alongside Bad Bunny during the Super Bowl halftime show, handing him a shot of rum inside a replica of her Williamsburg social club.
Toñita opened the Caribbean Social Club more than 50 years ago, and it remains a cultural hub for Puerto Ricans in the city.
She says she won’t sell, despite multimillion-dollar offers, and plans to keep serving the community.
