Six years ago, Anya Taylor-Joy starred in one of Netflix’s most spectacular dramas, which received critical acclaim, with major praise for the brilliant actress’ performance. Released on October 23, 2020, the series comprises seven episodes, instead of the original six-episode order, and most of which were filmed in Berlin, Germany. Although described as a miniseries, fans have since been expecting this award-winning gem to return for a sophomore run, and fortunately, there’s been an update from Taylor-Joy herself.

As an adaptation of Walter Tevis’ 1983 novel, The Queen’s Gambit is that masterpiece and more, of which many have been anticipating another season. However, in a recent interview, Taylor-Joy confirmed that the hit drama won’t return for Season 2, providing a valid reason. “I think it’s so beautiful as it is,” she shared. “I feel like it’s currently in a situation where, like, if we added anything to it, it might take away from it. So I think that story is like very nicely wrapped up with a bow.”
