Butler Twp. Police charged a woman following a Saturday evening pursuit that began during a traffic stop.

Neymma A. Tyson, Brooklyn, New York, was charged with felony fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, duty of driver in emergency response areas and related summary traffic violations.

According to a criminal complaint, officers were parked on the shoulder in the 400 block of North Hunter Highway, state Route 309, with their emergency lights on when Tyson approached and drove over the fog line without moving over. Police say Tyson failed to provide adequate clearance and narrowly missed striking the patrol vehicles.

Tyson initially slowed when an officer attempted a traffic stop but then allegedly accelerated onto Interstate 80 eastbound beginning a pursuit.

The vehicle ultimately stopped approximately eight miles later after a second officer joined the pursuit.

Tyson was then taken into custody ad showed signs of impairment. She was in possession of a THC vaping device.

During the stop, Tyson reportedly told officers, “I just thought y’all was ridin’ behind me.”

She was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Brian J. Tupper and was remanded to the Luzerne County Correction Facility in lieu of $1,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for later this month.
