Anya Taylor-Joy shared an update on The Queen’s Gambit Season 2 that will disappoint fans of the hit Netflix show.

What is The Queen’s Gambit Season 2 update?

Taylor-Joy recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight about she sequel season’s production. Season 2 is not expected to happen, and Taylor-Joy is perfectly content with that decision.

“You know what, I think it’s so beautiful as it is,” Taylor-Joy said. “I feel like it’s currently in a situation where, like, if we added anything to it, it might take away from it. So I think that story is, like, very nicely wrapped up with a bow.”

Based on Walter Tevis’ 1983 novel, The Queen’s Gambit stars Taylor-Joy as Beth Harmon, an orphan and chess prodigy. “Set during the Cold War era, The Queen’s Gambit follows Beth from the age of eight to twenty-two as she struggles with addiction in a quest to become the greatest chess player in the world,” reads the official logline.

The Queen’s Gambit also stars Bill Camp, Moses Ingram, Isla Johnston, Christiane Seidel, Rebecca Root, Chloe Pirrie, Akemnji Ndifornyen, Marielle Heller, Harry Melling, Patrick Kennedy, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and Marcin Dorociński.

Scott Frank wrote, directed, and executive produced The Queen’s Gambit. William Horberg served as an executive producer, with Allan Scott attached as a co-writer and executive producer.

All seven episodes of The Queen’s Gambit were released in October 2020. The show quickly became a sensation and is currently No. 8 on the list of Netflix’s most-watched English-language TV shows ever.

The Queen’s Gambit garnered significant critical acclaim, winning 11 Emmys, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series and Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie (Frank). Taylor-Joy won a Golden Globe, SAG, and Critics’ Choice award for her performance.

The Queen’s Gambit is now streaming on Netflix.
