Manhattan Beach Little League’s opening day parade and carnival will return this weekend — after seven years.
The local youth baseball league, which started in 1958, hasn’t celebrated the start of its season with the event since 2019, organizers said.
But the tradition is now back. The parade will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, starting at Valley Drive and Manhattan Beach Boulevard.
The parade will end at the field at American Martyrs Catholic School, where an opening day ceremony and festival will take place.
The Dodgers Training Academy will lead games and skill drills at the festival for players and attendees, and people can enjoy Hector’s Tacos, Wetzel’s Pretzels, snow cones and popcorn during the carnival.
Little league coach Jim Harbraugh will give a keynote address, a fifth grade student from Pacific Elementary will perform the national anthem and Monsignor John Barry of American Martyrs will give an invocation.
Manhattan Beach police and fire personnel will escort the players through the city streets of Manhattan Beach, with the Mira Costa band marching and classic cars leading Mayor David Lesser, the City Council and other local officials.
Lesser and Harbrough will also throw the first pitch to commence the season.
The season will begin Feb. 28, with games continuing through the spring.
