STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The FDNY extinguished a small fire linked to a transformer fire and downed wire in Graniteville on Wednesday morning.

A report of a transformer fire was made at 10:02 a.m. at 42 Merrill Ave. between Hillman Avenue and Danny Court, according to a spokesperson for the FDNY and EMS.

A small fire burned briefly on the asphalt near the curb where part of a wire landed on Merrill. The avenue was blocked to traffic during the emergency response.

The NYPD and Con Edison also responded to the scene.

A utility pole was leaning toward a fence and a wire was hanging down from the pole. Part of the wire was dangling in a tree while the rest landed on the sidewalk and in the avenue.

The location is near Moore Catholic High School, which is on winter recess.
