FLORENCE, Ala. (February 18, 2026) – The University of North Alabama men’s basketball team completed a four-game home stand with a competitive game against one of the top teams in the Atlantic Sun Conference, but Queens did enough late to steal an 85-78 road win in CB&S Bank Arena on Wednesday.

UNA (8-18, 3-12 ASUN) led for nearly 22 minutes with a stellar first half, taking a 33-28 lead into the break. This came on the wings of sophomore sensation Kevin de Kovachich, who scored 13 points in the first half and matched a career-high with 23 points for the contest. He went 4-6 from downtown.

On the other side, Queens (16-12, 11-4 ASUN) had a buzzer-beater to end the half from Yaov Berman, leading to momentum and a 7-0 run to open the second half and flip the lead. Queens went on to score 57 points in the frame and outlasted UNA in the final two minutes.

Neither team led by more than eight points in the contest.

Both leads came in the final minute of each half, with UNA up 33-25 near the break and down 83-75 in the second frame.

With the win, Queens locks up one of the top four seeds in the ASUN Championship next month. The top four seeds get a first-round bye, while the bottom eight will play in the first round. For UNA, the Lions will look to gain momentum following Sunday’s win on ESPNU against EKU and a competitive showing against one of the top three in the league.

There were 12 lead changes in tonight’s game, but only one of those in the first half. UNA jumped ahead 10-7 on a three-pointer by sixth-year senior Dallas Howell and led for 17 minutes in the first half. Howell was one of four Lions in double figures, finishing with 14 points and three makes from downtown.

Howell and de Kovachich were joined by a double-double night from Corneilous Williams, who finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds. He has 10 double doubles this season and is one away from matching his 11 from last season.

True freshman Braylon Patton had some key moments in his 25 minutes, scoring 12 points on 5-11 shooting from the floor.

Six players for Queens reached double figures, led by Berman with 16 points.

UNA won the paint 44-30 and had a slight 33-27 advantage on the boards. Queens countered by winning at the free throw line, going 23-28 while UNA went 10-20. Queens scored 15 points off turnovers and had 15 on the fast break. UNA had a 17-5 advantage in second chance scoring.

The Lions have three games remaining in the regular season, including a Saturday showdown at Lipscomb to end the week. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. in Nashville.
