MOUNT EDEN, the Bronx (PIX11) — A man is accused of shooting a man to death during a fight in a Bronx subway station, making it the first killing of the year in a New York City subway, authorities said.
Alberto Frias, 27, was arrested on Thursday and charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the NYPD.
Frias allegedly shot and killed Adrian Dawodu, 41, in the 170th Street subway station in Mount Eden on Feb. 10 at around 3 p.m.
The men fought on the train, and it spilled onto the platforms of the B and D just before shots rang out, police said. Dawodu was shot in the groin and leg, and the bullet hit an artery.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said the victim was a regular at the subway station and suffered from mental illness. He was sitting on a bench talking to himself in the subway station while Frias was pacing back and forth about five feet away.
A fist fight broke out, and when Dawodu got off the bench, the gunman pulled out the pistol. The victim then started swinging at Frias before the brawl continued 25 feet down the platform, Kenny said.
Then Frias allegedly shot the victim in the upper thigh, and he bled out, cops said. He died at the hospital.
The gunman then fled in a Lyft that took him to Manhattan.
