City politicians have been embroiled in a debate over Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s two proposed options to address the city’s budget gap: either tax the wealthiest New Yorkers, or raise property taxes.
Mamdani prefers the former but needs help from Gov. Kathy Hochul and the state Legislature. The mayor said the latter is a “last resort.”
