A worker was fatally injured at a site in Manhattan’s Hudson Yards for the Gateway tunnel project on Oct. 23, according to the Gateway Development Commission, Amtrak and Related Companies.
The incident took place at the Hudson Yards Concrete Casing project site on 30th Street between 11th and 12th avenues. All work is suspended while an investigation takes place, the statement said. The worker who died was an employee of the New York Concrete Corporation, the agencies said.
The agencies and the company overseeing the project said they “extend our profound condolences to the family of the worker who suffered a fatal injury on the Hudson Yards Concrete Casing project today.”
“We thank all the first responders for their immediate and thorough efforts,” they said.

New York Concrete Corp. and J. Pizzirusso Landscaping, a joint venture contractor group working at the Hudson Yards Concrete Casing project site, were cited in two inspections June 16, 2025 regarding safety at the project’s West 30th Street project site by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Little details are publicly available, but the case was closed Sept. 11, 2025.
The $692 million concrete casing project, which is being overseen by Related Companies and Amtrak, is a complicated site where a tunnel box and train path are being built for Amtrak and NJ Transit trains that will enter and exit New York Penn Station through the new Hudson River rail tunnel being built beneath the Hudson River, part of the $16 billion Gateway program.
Construction workers are drilling rock and digging through a clay-soil mixture to create an 80-foot hole that will eventually be lined with concrete to form the walls of the tunnel box. As of July, the project was about 56% complete and expected to conclude at the end of next year.
