Police say a 28-year-old man was stabbed in front of 899 Tenth Avenue (between 58th and 59th streets–part of John Jay College) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

An NYPD official tells us the victim was walking and the suspect pulled out a weapon and stabbed him in the back, “causing physical injury” which was treated at Mount Sinai West, right across the street from the location of the incident.

The perpetrator fled south on Tenth Avenue by foot. The attack was reportedly unprovoked.

The entrance to the building was blocked by police tape, as shown in a video by ABC 7.

“We’re looking for a male Black, approximately 40 years old, 5’11,” slim build, wearing a beige sweater and a beige hat,” an officer could be heard saying on a police dispatch call (c/o Citizen).

No arrests have been made and an investigation remains ongoing. We’ll provide updates if and when we learn more.
