Mickey Barreto, the man who once claimed ownership of the New Yorker Hotel after booking a single night’s stay, has pleaded guilty to a felony charge of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree.

Barreto, 50, entered the plea Wednesday in New York State Supreme Court in Manhattan. He was sentenced to six months in jail and five years of probation, and signed a waiver of his right to appeal. While the Department of Corrections must do an official calculation, his defense attorney is confident the six-month sentence has already been served while the case was pending.
