New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the state’s enforcement of alcohol service hours will be suspended Sunday for the U.S. men’s Olympic hockey team’s gold medal game. On Saturday, Gov. Hochul directed the state’s Liquor Authority to allow bars and restaurants to open early on Sunday morning so hockey fans can gather for the game against Canada. The suspension only applies to areas not under the state of emergency. Parts of downstate New York are under blizzard warnings. In a statement, Governor Hochul said “I still remember watching the 1980 game as a college student at Syracuse University, working in a pizza shop. The whole place stopped and watched together. I hope a new generation of New Yorkers gets that same moment tomorrow.”
