This Day in History – February 21: Malcolm X assassinated in New York City

February 21, 1965 – Malcolm X was assassinated in New York City on February 21, 1965. Born Malcolm Little at University Hospital in Omaha, his family moved to Milwaukee then Michigan after threats were made against them.

He was sent to Boston and New York, where he committed burglary and served a six-and-a-half year prison sentence. He took the name Malcolm X after leaving prison and later formed the Organization of Afro-American Unity.
