New York City public schools will be closed Monday for a traditional snow day with a blizzard forecasted to hit the five boroughs, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced Sunday.

Sixteen to 24 inches of snow are projected to hit the city, according to NY1 forecasts, with the worst of the storm arriving between Sunday night through midday Monday.

This will be the city’s first traditional snow day this winter. City schools were remote on January 26, though that decision did not impact students in high schools or in schools that serve grades 6 through 12, as the remote day fell on a day those students had a day off.

Monday was scheduled to be the first day back from midwinter recess for city public school students.
