As the storm sets in (see photo) we have word that New York City public schools will be closed tomorrow, Monday, February 23, with no remote instruction. In other words, it’s a traditional “snow day” though with predicted strong winds probably not a good one for getting out and building a snowman. We are also advised that under the Mayor’s Emergency Executive Order No. 3
the streets, highways, bridges, and tunnels in the City of New York are closed for vehicular traffic, including but not limited to commercial trucks, electric bicycles, scooters, and mopeds, effective 9 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2026, and until 12 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026.
There are many exceptions to this prohibition that are set out in the Order linked above. These include, as expected, police, fire, and other emergency vehicles. They also include, among others: MTA buses; Access-a-Ride vehicles; private ambulance services; “[v]ehicles used to deliver food, medical supplies, or fuel”; and
[v]ehicles [including for hire vehicles] used to transport persons to and from their places of employment in federal, state, or local government offices; medical facilities; pharmacies; grocery stores (including all food and beverage stores); convenience stores; gas stations; laundromats; news media; food, beverage, and hospitality establishments; hotels and other places of accommodation; and hardware stores.
See the linked Order for a full list.
