UTICA, N.Y. — Across the country and here in Central New York, hockey fans celebrated as Team USA beat Canada in overtime to win their first gold medal in men’s hockey since 1980.
Governor Hochul issued an order that suspended enforcement of alcohol service hour laws between 6 and 10 a.m. so bars and restaurants could open their doors for the 8 a.m. game.Â
One of those was the Dinghy Bar in Utica, where chants of “USA” rang out after the game-winning goal.Â
Youth hockey organizations also held watch parties. The Oneida County Youth Hockey Club 10UÂ Vennero team gathered to watch the gold medal game this morning.
