NEW YORK (PIX11) — The Department of Sanitation has opened registration for appointments to become an emergency snow shoveler for the blizzard in New York City.
New York City could see nearly two feet of snow, so even the plows will need some assistance where they can get it. Shovelers will clear snow and ice from bus stops, crosswalks, fire hydrants and other public areas.
Pay starts at $19.14 per hour for snow shovelers and increases to $28.71 per hour after the first 40 hours worked in a week.
To be eligible, applicants must be:
Eligible to work in the United States
Able to perform heavy physical labor
