The Dallas Mavericks continue to monitor Cooper Flagg’s recovery from a left midfoot sprain, with the rookie forward trending toward a potential return as early as Tuesday in Brooklyn.

Flagg has missed three consecutive games after sustaining the injury before the All-Star break. The setback forced him to sit out the final game before the hiatus and sidelined him from All-Star Rising Stars events. Since then, the organization has prioritized a measured recovery timeline while monitoring his response to increased activity.

Through 49 games this season, Flagg leads the Mavericks with 20.4 points per game while averaging 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 34.1 minutes. He is shooting 48.2% from the field and 80.4% from the free-throw line, compiling 999 total points along with 321 rebounds, 202 assists, 58 steals, and 39 blocks.

Cooper Flagg Injury Recovery Continues Ahead of Brooklyn Trip

Head coach Jason Kidd provided an encouraging update following Sunday’s 134-130 victory over the Indiana Pacers, confirming that Flagg completed a productive workout and will be re-evaluated after Monday’s team practice.

“He’s feeling better,” Kidd said. “He had a good workout today, and we’ll see how he feels tomorrow.”

The Mavericks will practice in Indianapolis before attempting to travel to New York City, giving Flagg another structured opportunity to test the foot in a controlled team setting.

“We’ll practice tomorrow,” Kidd said. “We’ll see how he feels after practice.”

Winter weather may complicate travel plans as the team prepares for Brooklyn.

“Tomorrow is going to be a long day,” Kidd said. “We can’t leave until the evening, and there’s no guarantee with that. Hopefully, we can get out.”

Flagg’s availability for Tuesday will depend on how he responds to practice activity and whether the team is able to complete travel as scheduled.

Dallas Mavericks Navigating 3–4 Record Without Cooper Flagg

In Flagg’s absence, Dallas is 3-4 all-time without him in the lineup. Across those seven games, the Mavericks are averaging 121.0 points per contest while shooting 49.1% from the field and 36.0% from three-point range.

Sunday’s win in Indiana demonstrated the offensive adjustments required without their leading scorer. Six players reached double figures as Dallas shot 54.3% from the field and committed just six turnovers across the final three quarters.

Kidd emphasized collective execution rather than reliance on a single option.

“Yeah, it was great,” Kidd said. “I thought the ball movement, the execution — the guys were really good on both ends. Indiana’s a good team and they play hard. They shoot the three extremely well. But for our group, the energy and effort was high.”

When asked whether the by-committee approach is necessary while Flagg remains out, Kidd was direct.

“We have no choice,” Kidd said. “The turnovers in that first quarter were at five, and then just to have six for the rest of the game — that’s pretty good. Indiana is a team that can break up your plays and be disruptive. All-Star had 30 tonight, so just understanding that the group stayed together and found a way to win.”

P.J. Washington, who scored 23 points against Indiana, echoed the emphasis on shared responsibility.

“For sure,” Washington said. “We’ve got a lot of talented guys. I feel like we did a good job moving the ball, getting good shots, and good looks. Obviously, we got a win tonight, so it feels good.”

As they continue to build chemistry together, Washington also highlighted the impact of Khris Middleton drawing defensive attention late.

“It’s been great,” Washington said. “Khris has been a great scorer his whole career. When he brings that gravity, it opens the floor for everybody else — backdoor cuts, easy threes. It just opens the game up. It’s harder for teams to stop.”

After ending the 10-game losing streak, Kidd reinforced that Flagg’s eventual return remains instrumental to the team’s development as they integrate new players.

“I’m not really worried about the streak,” Kidd said. “I’m worried about getting the new guys’ feet on the ground and getting healthy. Hopefully, we’ll get Cooper back soon, and we can build on this.”

For now, the Mavericks remain encouraged by Flagg’s progress ahead of Monday’s practice in Indianapolis. Brooklyn, currently navigating its own weather-related travel challenges, is expected to host Dallas at Barclays Center, assuming conditions allow.
