Holi is a popular ancient Hindu festival, also known as the Festival of Love, the Festival of Colors or the Festival of Spring. This year, Holi will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 4th with family-friendly events from February through April across New York City!

Join local author Geshu Sugandh and illustrator Natasha B. Padhiar at the Leonard Library for a joyful, hands-on celebration of Holi, the Indian Festival of Colors. They will be sharing their book Happy Hippotastic Holi! How to Celebrate with Consent. Enjoy this bilingual English-Hindi read-aloud along with crafts. Signed books and sticker sheets will be available for purchase.

Join the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art and The Culture Tree for a free afternoon of learning and celebration. Dating back thousands of years, this jubilant festival of colors has spread from India throughout the world. Mark this vibrant holiday by learning about Holi traditions through artmaking, read-alouds, a drum performance, dance, and more! Schedule of events for the day include:

Holi Celebration at The Seaport in Manhattan

The annual Holi celebration lets us shake off the winter blues and welcome the arrival of spring. This year, the Seaport, in partnership with and the , invites you to experience the traditional Indian festival of colors. Events of the day include:
Celebrating on the Seaport Square| 12:00pm to 3:00pm | Bring your kids, family, and friends, and stop by for a lively afternoon with interactive dance and drum performances, food, and plenty of color throwing. There will be 5 powder play countdowns at 12:00pm, 12:30pm, 1:00pm, 1:30pm, and 2:00pm. Wear white and be sure to order colors in advance. No outside colors will be permitted.
South Street Seaport Museum | 11:00am-5:00pm | Guests can reserve free general admission tickets to visit the South Street Seaport Museum. Be sure to visit before engaging in a color throw.
Wavertree Kids Holi Celebration | 2:00pm | Families can also reserve tickets to go aboard the 1885 tall ship Wavertree to enjoy the fan-favorite Holi Puppet Show presented by WonderSpark Puppets and The Culture Tree, and a book reading of Kahaani Rangeeli (Colorful Story) by award-winning author Anu Sehgal. There will also be Holi-themed crafts!

This educational program teaches the rich cultural and spiritual significance of Holi by exploring its origins, evolution, and how it’s celebrated around the world, even in Queens! Featuring traditional dancers and Indian snacks and treats, immerse yourself in the delight of color play, where the vibrant powders create a kaleidoscope of joy as participants run across the scenic south side of Queens County Farm Museum’s 47-acre farm.
