New York City public school students will return to their classrooms in person Tuesday after having a traditional snow day Monday, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said.

At a news briefing Monday afternoon, Mamdani said public schools would reopen Tuesday, with the worst of the storm having passed

“I hope our students enjoy their snow day today, and stay warm and safe throughout, but I do have some tough news to share: School will be in person tomorrow,” he said. “You can still pelt me with snowballs when you see me.”

While state law requires 180 instructional days, Mamdani said the city received a waiver from the state education commissioner to hold a traditional snow day on Monday.
